1. Co je potřeba?

Co je potřeba?

There are a few basic things required to start your own website. In this guide we give an overview of Domain Names, Web Hosting and what you will need to get a website up and running.

In order get a website up and running you need 3 basic elements:

  • A Domain Name – the address of your site, for example www.golfclubs.com
  • Website Hosting – somewhere for your site to „live“ that your domain name points to
  • An Actual Website – in our case, the Fresh Store Builder files

A simple analogy of these elements could be your house. Before you build a house you need an address (domain name). Then you need an actual area of land where you will build the house (website hosting). Finally you need to actually build the house on your land (the actual website).

Lets look a little closer at each element.

Domain Name

A domain name is simply the „address“ of your website. Every website you know has a unique domain name that you type into your internet browser to get to. To get your website online, you will need to decide on a domain name to use and then make sure it’s available to register. For example, www.golfclubs.com is a domain name someone might use for a Fresh Store Builder site selling golf clubs. For our purposes you will likely want something a little more specific; choosing a domain name is covered in a seperate guide.

Once you have registered a domain name, you will then configure it to „point“ to your hosting account. This is so when people type in or click to your domain name, they will see your website when it is done.

You have probably seen quite a variety of different types of domain names…most ending with a „.com“ but probably also many „.net“ or „.org“ or any of the many other available „extentions“ or TLDs (top level domains). For your site you will likely want the „.com“ for US websites and .co.uk for UK sites, for reasons we cover in more detail in other guides.

When you register a domain name you are paying for the right to use it for a period of time, typically in 1 year increments. A domain name should cost roughly $10 a year. For more information on registering a domain name and our recommended places to register, please see our Hosting and Domain Name Recommendations.

Web Hosting

A web hosting company (known as a „Web Host“, „Hosting“ or simply „Host“) provide you a place for your website to live. You typically pay monthly or yearly and the cost is roughly $8 per month. You can usually have more than one website on your host account for the same price.

The cost of your hosting will depend essentially on how busy your website is. When you are first starting a website, you are fine using the cheaper packages but keep in mind you may need to upgrade your hosting as your site gets busier. This is because the more visitors you have to your site per day the more resources you will use (i.e. bandwidth and processing power).

When you choose a web hosting account you may find that there are different types of host available, such as basic „shared hosting“, virtual private servers and fully dedicated servers. Each comes with a varying cost starting as low as a few dollars a month for basic shared hosting all the way up to many thousands of dollars a month for dedicated servers. For your first websites you will only need a basic shared hosting account to start. If you find you need more you can always upgrade.

When you sign up for a hosting account you may get a specific amount of hard drive space on your account. All this means is you have limited space for all the files of your website/s. In most cases, especially with our recommendations (see here), you will have more than enough space for all your sites.

Another important factor of your hosting account is allowed bandwidth. Each time a visitor loads your site they will use a certain amount of bandwidth. This costs your hosting company so in turn they charge you for bandwidth. Some hosting companies will offer unlimited bandwidth and others will offer much more than you will ever need, especially if you use our recommended hosts.

To understand bandwidth further, you must think about how large a file is. If a visitor was to view a picture on your website and that picture is 1mb in size then they will use 1mb of your hosting bandwidth to view it. All aspects of your website including the text, video and pictures contribute towards bandwidth use. Bandwidth use is less important these days although worth considering if you ever run sites with large files (such as video).

2. Najít webhosting

Najít Web Hosting

Here we take a look at how to get web hosting, what to expect and an introduction to how to manage your hosting with cPanel.

Ordering Web Hosting

When you have chosen a hosting company (see our recommended hosting companies) and decided on a hosting package (see our previous guide for more info – we recommend shared hosting to start with) you are now ready to order your hosting.

As with anything you buy, be sure to take a look at key things like refund policies and terms of use. When you are happy continue through the signup process and order your hosting. You will typically get discounts for ordering 12 months of hosting instead of 1 month at a time, so that is worth keeping in mind.

At this stage you may be asked if you want to register a domain name. Our recommendation is to use a seperate company to register domain names as they are cheaper and if you wish to move hosting company it is less hassle to do so. As a rough guide domain names should cost around $10 per year to register (our next guide details purchasing domain names).

After you have ordered you will receive a welcome email with all your login information and important details. Be sure to keep this email even if you don’t understand everything in it – some of it you will need when you start building your website and some of it you might not need until later.

You may see some of the following information on your welcome email:

  • - Your hosting IP address, username and password
  • - Your FTP login information (usually the same as above)
  • - Your cpanel login information (usually the same as above)
  • - Your nameservers (needed for „Pointing“ your domain name to your hosting )
  • - Information on how to contact your hosting support if needed.
  • - Your hosts help files and FAQs.

About cPanel

You may have heard the term cPanel before. It is an admin area that is used to manage hosting accounts. In cPanel you can do all kinds of things related to your hosting such as setting up email addresses, editing files, creating databases and setting up cron jobs. We will cover these tasks in more detail when required, but is important to know that cPanel is the place to do it.

The majority of web hosting companies (including those that we recommend) use cPanel to allow their customers to manage the hosting accounts. Our guides assume that this is the case for you. If it is not and you are struggling with any aspect of these guides, please contact our support team.

cPanel can typically be accessed by visiting http://www.yoursite.com/cpanel/ where „yoursite.com“ is your actual domain name. If your domain name has not been pointed to your hosting this may not work, and their are usually alternative ways to access your cPanel.

Once inside cPanel you will see a variety of options as well as information on your hosting account such as bandwidth use, disk space use and number of doman names added. There are help guides inside cPanel if you wish to read further on a particular feature.

1. Co je to specializace

Co je to specializace?

This guide is a quick overview of what a niche is and how it relates to your Amazon Store.

What is the big deal with niches anyway?

When we talk about niches with regards to websites and internet marketing, it seems to take on a slightly different meaning.

We typically say niche to describe the general topic your website is working within, and typically it is used to describe a small area that does not have much competition. A website focused on dog treadmills would be in a niche (providing it does not have a lot of competition) due to the relatively small target audience.

How does this relate to your store?

Typically when starting a Fresh Store Builder site you should look for a niche in order to get quicker results and more success (there are exceptions, see below). This is because you have less competition in the search engines and you will be satisfying a demand that perhaps has not been properly satisfied before.

The exceptions to this rule would be if you want to add a shop to an existing popular site or if you are happy to be more patient and build a store in a wider area (for example Treadmills).

So in conclusion, we are looking for a focused area in which to start our site. Read on through our guides to find out how to pick a succesful niche.

1. Vytvoření si účtu na Amazonu

Vytvoření si účtu na Amazonu

This guide will show you how to setup your Amazon account and get the details you need to setup your Fresh Store Builder Store.

Amazon USA, Amazon UK or Both?

First you will need an Amazon Associate account for each locale (UK, USA etc.) you are promoting. Here are the links to create your account(s):

Simply click on „Join Now“, enter your details and complete your account.

Your Tracking ID

Within your Amazon account you can create unlimited Tracking IDs which look similar to myshop-20 (USA) or myshop-21 (UK). We recommend you create a new Tracking ID for every Fresh Store Builder shop you create.

Quick tip! keep your Tracking IDs short and undecipherable e.g. ms1-20 instead of mystore-20. Why? So that anyone visiting an Amazon link directly from your site will not recognise your Tracking ID in the URL.

API Key and API Secret Key

Fresh Store Builder accesses Amazons product database using what is called an API (Application Programming Interface). In order to do this, you must generate an API Key and an API Secret Key via the following link.

https://aws-portal.amazon.com/gp/aws/developer/account/index.html

Choose the Security Credentials link from the left hand side and then select Create a new Access Key under „Access Keys“. You will then be given two keys similar to the following:

  • API Key: 0NO3S5VTLCPE4F91GY80
  • API Secret Key: hKJrlFIeg+wqHBYDbhdlM4qtF89DFdL2gE/u9nDn

Once you have got these details you can proceed to the next guide to continue your store setup.

1. Pozor na „Thin Affiliate“ stránky

Pozor na „Thin Affiliate“ stránky

A „Thin Affiliate Site“ is a term coined by Google and refers to websites that offer no value to the visitor. Read on to find out how to avoid being labelled a „Thin Affiliate Site“.

What is a Thin Affiliate Site?

If you have ever seen or created a website that contains only adverts and affiliate links, then you have seen a Thin Affiliate site. This is a phrase used by Google to label a site that they don’t believe deserves good rankings.

Sites with no unique content, auto blogging sites, sites with „spun“ content etc. are all classified as Thin Affiliate sites.

Why Do Google Penalise Thin Affiliate Sites?

This type of site offers nothing of value to the user. The products they would eventually buy can be found elsewhere and nothing else is added.

Visitors to the site are often frustrated by the adverts, bad content etc. and this reflects badly on Google.

If Google allowed this type of site to rank well then the search results would be filled with this type of site and the users would soon start looking at other search engines to use.

How to Avoid the Thin Affiliate Label?

Simply add value to your store. Add some unique content, some reviews and helpful advice. The act of organising your products into useful categories is adding value, but on it’s own it will not be enough for Google.

Use good unique content; don’t copy content, don’t use spun content and make sure your content is well written and informative.

Importantly – don’t launch your store until you have at least 5 pages of unique content. You only get one chance to give Google a good first impression.

Will Good SEO and Link Building Prevent This?

No. If your site is labelled as Thin Affiliate you will never achieve good rankings.

How can I tell if my Store has been Labelled Thin Affiliate?

You will be at at least position 50 for the majority of searches. Your Google traffic will drop dramatically overnight.

Keep in mind that if you have used your site in other ways in the past it may already have a Thin Affiliate penalty.

If I have been Labelled Thin Affiliate, what can I do?

Fix your site. Add some great content and follow the suggestions in our other guides. Then submit a reconsideration request via http://www.google.com/webmasters/ explaining that you feel you were not offering value, you have added information and generally talk up your site.

It may also help to totally remove your site and just add simple pages with good content. Remove any affiliate links until you get your rankings back (that includes Fresh Store Builder)

Unfortunately Google don’t pay much attention to sites that have been penalised in this way. You may never get re-evaluated, and if you do they will not let you know about it.

Don’t take the risk and make sure you don’t get this penalty, as it is very difficult to escape from.
